Very positive assessment of Wiki as a research tool at the Institute of Rhodes Island

Nacho Fernandez Curial Rodriguez, Ana Lydia Girbal Fabregas, Guipreet Icow, Wiki was born digital in 2009 with the aim of incorporating new technologies in the 2.0 communication and diffusion of cultural heritage in Roses.

In this last school year 2010-2011, which has just ended, was carried out under the name "Wiki in the classroom: a heritage education project 2.0" initiative, the first use of this site in schools. Specifically, the experience has been developed at the IES island of Rhodes as part of the research center.

Curial Rodriguez Girbal Lucie, Nacho Gonzalez and Guipreet Icow, representing the 70 students participating in this project have been able to explain their experience in a ceremony held at the Citadel. All four have been referred to the work they have developed within the Wiki, highlighting the discovery of raw, faceted, work towards the cultural heritage that did not know before, and now have been put in the digital world map. In short, they all said it was a very positive experience.

The head of this initiative and professor at the University of Girona, Anna Fabregas has pointed out that "the goal is to incorporate Wiki in schools as a research tool." And just like the students are also highly satisfactory feature of this initiative.

During the event, explained that Wiki acts as a participatory platform of cultural heritage to be a resource rosinc Wiki. That and the fact that a participatory Web 2.0 offers advantages such as:

• Possibility of working with participatory and collaborative resources of Web 2.0 in order to demonstrate other uses beyond the Web 2.0 social networks with which students are often already familiar with.
• Publishing the results of a search, so use the wiki as a support tool of cultural production.
• Submit your own research to the public (items can be modified and / or discussed by others constantly.)
• Understanding the dynamics of knowledge construction. Among own cultural production within the 2.0 to democratic and free resource.

Secondary School Teachers of Island of Rhodes also consider this a positive experience "because in addition to other variables we have opened the way for the year is good to develop this initiative in other schools towards the site of Roses," he said the head of the research center, José Luis Tejeda. "He also added one of the professors of the institute, Montse Valeriano, research techniques such experiences have been very good when the students after they have seen that some recipients who are Internet users who visit Wiki."

Therefore, the good result of the experience, the interesting interaction established between the University of Girona and the school have served as precedent for the proposal to extend all the educational center of the Roses by year 2011-2012 .
